The Varrell Line

Direct line only — the confirmed pedigree chain from the family database; full source synthesis not yet written up

Sarah Varrell's own family, Isles of Shoals and York County, Maine — she married Edward Voudy, joining the Voudy Line that eventually reaches the Dudleys and the Schmidts. As with Voudy, the archive holds a large, still-being-adjudicated research record for this surname; this page shows only the direct-line ancestors already settled in the pedigree database, not a full synthesis.

John Overall Varrel Jr & Rachel Sadler

John: b. abt 1715 – d. 1763 Rachel: b. 1718 – d. 15 Aug 1806

The earliest Varrell ancestor currently in the pedigree database. John and Rachel were married at the Isles of Shoals on 30 November 1737 — “John Varrel & Rachel Sadler were Joyned in Marriage,” per the Isles’ own church register, printed in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register (vol. 66, 1912). John died in 1763; Rachel outlived him by over four decades, to 1806 — by 1798 she is recorded a widow, making a gift deed to her daughter Sarah and son-in-law Edward Voudy. Rachel’s own parents, Edward Sadler (1694–1718) and Mary Sampson (1678–1723, tier: theory), are recorded one generation further back but don’t yet have a page of their own.

Sarah Varrell

b. 14 Sep 1740 – d. 29 Dec 1811 m. Edward Voudy

John and Rachel’s daughter, Sarah, married Edward Voudy — their line continues on the Voudy Line. Their marriage was recorded at the Isles of Shoals, “Dec’r 1st 1760. Edward Voudey & Sarah Varrell were Joyned in Marriage.” In 1816 their son William named both his mother and grandmother in a single deed, writing that his land had been “purchased by my grandmother Rachel Varrill… and left me by will of my mother Sally Voudy” — closing the Voudy–Varrell–Sadler chain in the family’s own words.
